Why is Your Family Matters® so Important?
After a death, in addition to grief, family members often face a lengthy period of disorganization and confusion.
Much of this stems from the fact that a good deal of information is needed quickly and in many cases that information
is not readily available. Family members not only don’t have the information they need, they also don’t
know where to find it.
The CD
The Your Family Matters® CD is designed to be simple and easy to use. The CD provides templates for compiling and securely storing personal, financial and final preferences information. The information is stored and password protected on a computer and it is recommended that a paper copy along with the disc is stored in a secure safe or lockbox until it is needed.
How It Works
Remember that none of your information is actually stored on the CD. Everything you enter and save is encrypted and stored on your computer. Think of the CD as the key which allows you to access that information. Once you have entered and saved information on the templates, you can go back anytime and change the information.
Your Family Matters® Day
You will want to update the Life Organizer as often as necessary. At a minimum, we suggest you consider designating a "Your Family Matters® Day" once a year to update your information and to review it with your family members. After updating, remember to print a new copy for your record storage.
Getting Started
To begin, gather items such as birth certificates, driver's licenses, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, insurance policies, computer passwords, etc. Insert the YFM disc into your computer and follow the instructions.
Save It – Print It – Secure It
Once you have compiled and saved information for each of the sections you should print and store it securely along with the disc in a safe or lock box. Creating a printed copy is critical and ensures that you have the information in the event that your computer is damaged or stolen.
